Junior Players Announces New Dance Production: Junior Players Presents: The Transformation Project

Junior Players is excited to announce that it will be producing a new and innovative dance production entitled Junior Players Presents: The Transformation Project. Performances will take place in the Studio Theater inside the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. Sara Romersberger and Taylor Lynn McKie will choreograph the production. The production is sponsored by The Harold Simmons Foundation and Cash America.

The theme of the performance will center around the Junior Players tagline: Transforming kids' lives through the arts. Teen dancers will come together to discuss some of the most challenging issues facing themselves, their peers, and their community, and how the arts have given them an outlet to deal with those challenges. The choreographers will then partner with the students to set their ideas to music and dance in order to create an hour long dance performance.

As with all Junior Players programs, there will be no cost for the participants of the production and each performance will be free to the public.

By providing this new program, Junior Players will give young people a unique opportunity: the opportunity to make tangible connections between themselves, their peers and their communities; and to express themselves in a safe and supervised, yet flexible forum, and finally, to create this within the exciting, imaginative context of the arts.

Junior Players is immensely excited to return to the Dallas Arts District after the resounding success of the organization’s production of In the Heights at the Dallas City Performance Hall in January 2015.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 1pm to 5pm at the Sammons Center for the Arts. Any Dallas or surrounding area high school student currently in grades nine through twelve are eligible to audition. Specific audition information can be found at www.juniorplayers.org.

Junior Players was founded in 1955, and is the oldest non-profit children's theater organization in Dallas. Over its sixty year existence, Junior Players has striven to meet the changing needs of the community. From 1955 to 1989, Junior Players presented traditional children's theater productions performed entirely by children and teenagers. In 1989, the Board of Directors changed the focus of Junior Players activities, deciding that, Junior Players can best serve the youth of Dallas by providing free programming accessible to all the children of North Texas. Junior Players, therefore, exclusively provides free arts education programs in local recreation and cultural centers, housing projects, elementary and middle schools, and through social service agencies serving youth at risk.
